Winter Salt Week Open House
Overview from Sir Izaak Walton League of America:
Learn how to stay safe while protecting the environment during the winter months at the DMV Winter Salt Week event!
Join us on January 31st between 10am-1pm to learn how salt affects our health and freshwater ecosystems, what’s being done, and how we can support local efforts to reduce road salt use. During the event we will hear from regional expert speakers, monitor the local waterways in Gaithersburg, Maryland for road salt pollution, and learn how much salt is needed to keep us safe during the winter while keeping environmental health in mind. Members of the media, government officials, nongovernmental organizations, and members of the public are invited to this event. We encourage you to bring a water sample (from tap water or from a local waterway) with you in a closed container to test for salt pollution during the event.
Much of the event will take place inside with stream monitoring and parking lot demos taking place outside at 11:30am and 12:15pm. Speakers are scheduled to speak from 10am-11:30am (see agenda below). Local organizations will have tables with information. Volunteer water monitors, government officials, NGOs, and other stakeholders will be available for interviews and discussion about road salt.
While this event is free, we ask that you please register in advance so that we can notify you in case of cancellation due to inclement weather.

New Pickleball Lines at the Amberfield Tennis Courts
We’re excited to share that the Amberfield tennis courts have been recently resurfaced and repainted—complete with new pickleball lines. This upgrade comes directly in response to resident requests and is part of our continued commitment to making the community a great place to live and play.
Why Pickleball?
Pickleball is one of the fastest-growing sports in the United States—and for good reason. It’s:
Easy to learn and play – The rules are simple, and beginners can pick it up in minutes.
Economical – All you need is a paddle, a ball, and a good pair of sneakers.
Low impact – The smaller court size and underhand serve make it easier on the joints than many other racquet sports.
Fun for all ages – Kids, adults, and seniors alike enjoy the game, making it a great community sport.
With its mix of social interaction, light exercise, and quick games, it’s no surprise pickleball is becoming a favorite across the country.
THE BASICS OF HOW TO PLAY
Here are a few simple rules to get you started:
Games are usually played to 11 points, and you must win by 2.
The serve is underhand and must land diagonally across the court.
Only the serving team can score points.
After the serve, both teams must let the ball bounce once before hitting it (the “two-bounce rule”).
There’s a non-volley area, often called the “kitchen”, near the net where players cannot hit the ball out of the air.
Come Play!
We hope residents will enjoy the refreshed courts and take advantage of the opportunity to try something new. Whether you’re a longtime tennis player or just curious about pickleball, the Amberfield courts are ready for you.

Amberfield Fall Loose Leaf Pick Up
Fall Loose Leaf Collection
The City of Gaithersburg will collect loose leaves on our Wednesday recycling day, the last week of October through the last business day of December—weather permitting. During this collection period, please rake leaves toward street curb by 7AM on recycling day. (Leaves placed in alleys or mews will not be collected..) Outside of the fall collection period, place leaves in biodegradable brown paper bags & leave curbside on collection day (Wednesday).
For more information, please see the Loose Leaf & & Yard Waste page of the City of Gaithersburg site. CLICK HERE.
Loose Leaf Collections Guidelines:
Collection is suspended on Thanksgiving & Christmas.
Collection is suspended during inclement weather. During periods of potential storm activity, please delay leaf raking until after the effects of the storm have passed.
Please remove limbs, rocks or other heavy objects from leaf piles.
Never drive across or park over a leaf pile.
Do not allow children to play in leaves along the street.
Do not rake leaves into gutters or streets. Rake them into grassy areas behind the curb line to allow water to flow into catch basins. This will help prevent the basins from clogging and will help prevent street flooding. Assistance moving leaves already in gutters to grassy areas would be greatly appreciated.
The burning of leaves is not allowed in the City.
Please be respectful of your neighbors and rake your yard regularly and dispose of leaves properly. The wind can blow leaves from an unkept yard into one where residents have taken the time to rake their leaves. THANK YOU!

Trash & Recycling Reminders
Dear Amberfield HOA Owners & Residents,
It has come to our attention that several residents of the community are not following proper procedure when placing household trash and recycling out for collection. Please remember the following:
1. Trash collection is Mondays and Thursdays
2. Recycling collection is Wednesdays
3. Trash must be in sealed trash bags which must then be placed in a rigid trash container with a closed lid for collection
4. All recycling must be placed in the blue County bins; recycling placed in bags or mixed in with trash will be picked up as trash, not recycling
5. Carboard boxes must be broken down and placed in the blue County bins
6. Dog waste must be in a sealed dog waste bag and disposed of in either one of the community dog waste station containers or placed in your own household trash. DO NOT use other neighbors’ trash containers for disposal.
7. Owners who rent need to remind their tenants about the proper trash and recycle placement procedures, as homeowners will be held responsible for any violations committed by their tenants
8. Bulk trash pickup must be scheduled with the HOA’s contracted trash removal company
Thank you for your attention to this important matter. If you have any questions, please contact the property manager, Shireen Ambush, via email at sambush@abarisrealty.com.
